My wife Kerri and I started Compass Pools over 30 years ago. We set out in a small factory in Newcastle, NSW, where in our first year of business we manufactured around 150 pools.

Today, more than 30 years on, we operate from two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Newcastle, NSW and in Yatala, QLD. We have an award-winning hand-picked dealer network all over Australia and New Zealand, and pride ourselves on continuing to set the benchmark in the design and manufacture of fibreglass pools.

Our years of experience and ‘know how’ has set us apart from other pool companies, and we’d now like to share with you the things you need to know before you buy a pool – regardless of the brand.

Everyone talks about the Vantage Self Cleaning Pool, so tell me about it…

There’s so much to tell you about the Vantage system. If you haven’t already watched the vantage video (on the ‘secret weapon’ page) you need to watch it. After watching the video and reading what our customers have to say, you’ll know that a Compass Vantage pool is the only way to own water.

In 1997 while at a pool show in Arizona, I was approached by Paramount Pool Products, the biggest supplier of swimming pool in-floor cleaning equipment in the world. At this time it was unheard of that a fibreglass swimming pool could have a factory-fitted in-floor cleaning and circulation system. Because we could see the potential, we set out to change this. Over the next 12 months we worked with Paramount to customise a system that worked in fibreglass pools and could handle everything that the harsh Australian climate could throw at it.

Some 15 years later we have over 10,000 happy Compass Vantage customers who love owning their pool now as much as they did the day they bought it.

Vantage really is our ‘secret weapon’ and it’s exclusive to Compass Pools. With 1000’s of Vantage systems installed Australia wide you are sure to know of someone with a Compass Vantage pool- just ask them what they think as I’m sure they wouldn’t ever want to own a pool any other way.

Everybody is busy. No one likes to clean their pool, so it makes sense to have a pool that cleans itself. Set and forget is the best way to describe how this system works, no ‘creepy crawly style cleaner’ floating in the pool, just an inconspicuous set of nozzles that sweep away the debris so your pool always looks sparkling clean.

Although the cleaning capabilities of the Vantage system are a massive benefit, the real advantage is in the circulation. If you don’t have well circulated water it becomes contaminated with algae and bacteria. A Compass Vantage pool ensures your water is thoroughly circulated with vital pool chemicals and is mixed thoroughly to keep algae and bacteria at bay.

Have you ever swam in a pool that’s warm on the top and cold at the bottom? Yes, well that’s because the sun warms only the top layer of a conventional pool. By continually mixing the water, the Vantage system stops this from happening. Unlike a conventional pool, not only will your pool be warmer for longer and have healthier water, but your chemical bill will be substantially reduced as your chemicals won’t burn off in the top layer of water.

Compass is renowned for its innovative technology, why is this important to the end customer?

Compass Pools
Technology and materials get better with time. We simply don’t build pools like we did 30 years ago. Over the years we have challenged conventional technology to come up with solutions to meet our customers’ needs and challenges the pool industry has faced.

Technology has helped us to achieve many firsts like, Ceramic Core technology, Bi-luminite colour technology, factory-fitted in-floor cleaning and engineered self-supporting pool technology just to name a few.

Since our journey began our manufactures warranty has changed from 10 to 20 years, and today our ceramic composite pool comes with a lifetime guarantee for the original purchaser.

We continue to work with the best in the industry to build the highest quality, safest and most durable pool we can.

For me technology improvements are all about improving the lifestyle of our customers. Whether it’s the Vantage system with its self-cleaning and circulation benefits, or the stunning Bi-luminite finish, our pools stand alone.

What makes the Bi-Luminite colour finish so different?

Before we developed Bi-luminite, most composite pools came in plain colour finishes. Some had flecks, others tried to look like marble. We revolutionised the look of our pools by inserting tiny reflectors into clear gelcoat and using a second colour layer, not just one.

From the beginning, Compass designers felt that having a layer of reflectors ‘floating’ above the colour layer would dramatically improve the appearance and finish of the pool surface. To do that, we had to perfect a new clear gelcoat layer. The result was a startling three-dimensional effect, which is what we now know as Bi-luminite.

I could tell you about the technology behind Bi-luminite, but what you really need to know is what these brilliant colours look like when your swimming pool is full of water. Simply put, don’t choose your pool colour from the shell alone. It’s the water colour that has to match in with its surrounds and the look you’re trying to achieve. We have colours to suit everyone’s style, and the Bi-luminite finish offers you unmatched depth and luminosity that no other pool can give you.

You won a design award for Maxi Rib Pool Technology, what is that exactly?

Simply put Maxi Rib technology means we can install a pool just about anywhere. Over the years I have seen our pools installed on roof tops, cliff faces and steep sloping sites. They have been brought to site by helicopters (which is really something to see), floated up rivers like a boat, and craned into positions you never thought possible. So if you thought your site was an impossibility – think again.
