Pools for Apartments & Building Developments
Lightweight, custom-engineered pool solutions for rooftops, penthouses, podiums, and constrained urban sites.
A Pool Can Be the Drawcard That Sets Your Development Apart
The right pool and wellness facilities can be a powerful drawcard for apartment buyers, adding both lifestyle appeal and long-term value to your development.
With decades of experience delivering customised rooftop, penthouse, and in-ground pool solutions, we work alongside developers to create features that stand out in competitive markets.
Our lightweight, self-supporting pool structures offer a highly cost-effective alternative to traditional concrete or stainless steel rooftop pools, and can be craned — or even helicoptered — into position where access is limited.
We also offer low-maintenance solutions, including our Vantage cleaning system, helping reduce ongoing workload for body corporates while supporting a consistent experience for residents.
Popular Pools for Apartment Buildings
From rooftop lap pools to penthouse plunges and communal wellness features — explore the models we’re asked for most by developers.
Fastlane
Our 10.3 Fastlane is a popular lap pool, suited to in-ground or above-ground installation. The unique above-ground support structure makes it ideal for rooftop installs. Custom-length Fastlanes are also available, with optional external grand-entry steps.
View Lap Pools →Plunge
As more developers look to create high-value offerings, the smaller footprint of our Plunge 3.8 has proven highly appealing for penthouse private pools and in-house wellness centres. Many developers also opt for dual hot/cold 2.8m plunge pools to complement communal wellness facilities.

Available in 2.8m × 1.8m or 3.4m × 1.8m, our XT Spas are a simple way to elevate premium apartments — adding a high-end wellness feature that enhances buyer appeal. They also integrate seamlessly into communal pool and health areas.

Apartment and development sites place real demands on a pool: structural load limits, restricted access, planning constraints, body-corporate longevity. Our ceramic composite core technology and lightweight installation systems are built for exactly this.
Our pioneering above-ground and out-of-ground systems open up sites that traditional fibreglass pools simply can’t reach — rooftops, podiums, sites with internal-lift-only access, and structurally sensitive locations.
Why fibreglass makes sense for apartment developments
- Lower-maintenance non-porous surface
- Bi-luminite finish resists fading & wear
- Reinforced ceramic composite core
- Lightweight transport, craning & install
- Ideal for elevated & tight-access sites
- Faster install, shorter build time
- Factory-controlled, consistent quality
- Lower operating costs over time
- Reliable long-term commercial performance
We Go Where Others Can’t
From street-level communal pools to seventh-storey rooftops and structurally constrained urban sites, our pool systems are designed to adapt to whatever the development demands. If a standard pool approach won’t fit your project, talk to us.
Proven Real-World Apartment Pool Projects
From a 43rd-floor penthouse to a structurally constrained urban site — two projects, both delivered where others wouldn’t.
Sky Mansion, Chevron 1
A private pool on the 43rd-floor penthouse of Chevron 1, Surfers Paradise. Structural load at height, wind exposure during the crane lift, acoustic isolation from the penthouse interior, and a single approved weather window for delivery. Every other pool installer declined.
A Relax 6 from the Compass Express Range, selected for its single-piece structural integrity and weight-to-capacity ratio. Engineered load distribution coordinated with the building’s structural team, acoustic preparation under the shell, and a single coordinated crane lift to the 43rd floor.
Believed to be one of the highest private fibreglass pool installations in Australia. Full structural sign-off, mechanical plant fully isolated, completed within the approved construction window.
South Melbourne Apartment Pool
A 1.3-metre planning depth restriction, a building lift shaft directly beneath the pool location, an 8-metre architectural acrylic window in the pool wall, and access restricted to the building’s internal lift. A standard pool approach was impossible.
A modified Maxi Rib shell, foam-based load distribution above the lift shaft, an engineered steel frame supporting the wall above the acrylic window, and a single-window crane lift coordinated with traffic management.
A planning-compliant, structurally sound, architecturally integrated pool delivered without major structural works to the building. The pool reads as a designed feature, not a service item.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from developers, architects, builders, and project teams designing pools into apartment and development projects.
Can Compass pools be installed on rooftops or above existing structures?
Yes — this is one of our most distinctive capabilities. Our lightweight fibreglass shells can be craned (and have been helicoptered) into elevated positions, with engineered load distribution to keep the pool within the slab’s structural capacity. The South Melbourne project featured on this page is a real-world example: a pool installed on a 5th-storey site directly above an active lift shaft.
Can pool dimensions be customised to suit planning or architectural constraints?
Yes. Pool depth, length, and configuration can be customised at the manufacturing stage. On the South Melbourne project, the Fast Lane shell was reduced by nearly 200 mm in height to comply with a 1.3-metre planning depth limit, with structural integrity maintained through the Maxi Rib reinforcement system. Custom-length Fastlanes (up to 30 metres) and custom Contemporary pools are also available.
Can architectural acrylic window panels be integrated into the pool wall?
Yes. Acrylic window panels can be integrated into the pool shell as a feature visible from adjacent interior spaces. The window is installed within an engineered steel frame designed to carry structural loads above the opening. On the South Melbourne project, an 8-metre acrylic panel was integrated with the operating water level held precisely against the glass.
What if site access is restricted to a building lift?
Access constraints are routine on inner-city apartment and podium sites. Components can be dimensioned and staged to pass through internal building lifts, with crane lifts scheduled for components that need external delivery. The South Melbourne project had no external construction access at all — every component passed through the building’s internal lift.
What are the maintenance implications for body corporates?
Fibreglass surfaces are easier to keep clean than concrete — the smooth, non-porous finish resists algae and bacteria build-up, which reduces day-to-day surface cleaning. The optional Vantage system circulates water across the pool floor to assist with debris management. Note that water chemistry in commercial pools is regulated by state public-health authorities — required treatment levels apply regardless of pool surface, managed through the building’s water-treatment plant.
How does fibreglass compare to concrete or stainless steel for rooftop pools?
Compass fibreglass pools are typically lighter than equivalent concrete or stainless steel rooftop options, faster to install (factory-engineered shell rather than on-site curing or fabrication), and the ceramic composite surface doesn’t need the periodic resurfacing or panel replacement that concrete or other systems can require. For developers, that translates to faster build, lower load on existing structures, and longer service life.
When should developers engage Compass on a project?
As early as possible — ideally during the design development phase, before structural engineering is locked in. Constrained sites, planning restrictions, and architectural feature requirements all benefit from being factored into the build documentation rather than retrofitted later. Early engagement also makes load planning, access logistics, and lift sequencing simpler.
